koubek gardens
The original site of Koubek Meat Locker and Grocery Store located on the west side of main street had deteriorated over the years. The Sandhills Open Road Challenge board of directors saw an opportunity to improve and beautify Arnold’s downtown. With the blessing and cooperation of the Koubek family, the SORC, along with many volunteers, came together to transform the site into what is now called Koubek Gardens. Beautiful grasses, bushes, and flowers frame the garden with an open green space in the center to allow for picnicking, playing, or meandering. Passersby sit to enjoy a picnic lunch in the garden while local children stop by for a quick game of tag.
A brick walking path is currently under way to further enhance the garden. Commemorative bricks may be purchased for $75 and will be etched with your name or in memory of a loved one. For more information, contact Becky Dailey.
